What do you know?
Somo on in the offico sharponod a pencil last month and came up with some shocking news. The cost of THE LADDER on a per copy basis exceeds the $2.50 subscription rate we have been charging. The advertising we have been running and the donations we have received from those graciously contributing financial support just don't cover this discrepancy.
We are therefore advising our readers and subscribers that the subscription rate will be raised to $4.00 per year effective September 1, 1959. Subscribers are being given the opportunity, however, ɗ renewing their sub scriptions for not more than two years at the old rate of $2.50 per year. To take advantage ɗ this saving renewals must bo received in our office before September 1.
Rates to foreign countries, other than Canada and Mexico, will be $5.00. For foreign airmail rates will have to be computed individually.
In line with the above, we would like to point out that the Daughters of Bilitis, Inc., has been recognized by the Federal Government as being officially on the "tax free" list. Thus all contributions are deductible on your Federal Income Tax.
This new position was brought about through the good, and free, offices of our attorney, Konneth Zwerin, who was brought into the picture after the government ruled unfavorably on our petiti on. Mr. Zwerin cannily found a section of the Tax Code even the "revenooers" had overlooked, and the government reconsidered and changed its ruling. For this we are deeply grateful!
